| River Thames |
Hi I have moved to Balham and am looking to fish the Tahmes around Kingston/Hampton or Teddington. Can anyone give me any advice on what to look for and whether it is worth fishing these areas for carp. Cheers Simon |

Youve called on the right man here mate. Check my profile pic out, caught that 21 on tidal teddington thames. I cant give that spot away because its over fished enough how it is and us local lot always seem to get beaten to it. however, I will recomend you Radner Gardens up the road from teddington, in Twickenam, theres plenty of big carp to be had that way, you might be better of fishing the thames for carp in summer though. Surbitons also pretty good for carp up near Hearts boatyard, recognisable from the pub there, its called The Swan I think. Fishing from the Home Park side of the bank may be better however, for that youll have to walk up from the Hampton Wick Side of Kingston bridge. I dont know about carp in Hampton, but Hampton Court is pretty good. Fishing to the Lock side of the bridge is probably your best bet, above the weirs also meant to be decent in the steady moving water, Ive heard of loads of carp being taken from there. I think theres only a couple of swims there though so dont bank on getting a spot. Hope this helps. We would advise you to join this sites newly opend sister site http://www.carp-fishing-online.com for carp topics. My self and the owner of this site are Admin on there and are looking for new members as its only just opened up. anyway mate, let me know if this is any good. |

Thanks for the info. I've heard a few horror stories about fishing in the area particulary at night, is it safe? I also like fishing for other species, have you had any luck with the bream or chub in the area. Cheers Simon |

I night fish the thames, but youve gotta be on your guard. We normally find the large metal mag-light a worthy form of protection, but Ive not had to use it yet. Just make sure you go down with a couple of your mates so no one tries anything. Chances are you wont get any trouble though. Night fishing the thames does pay off when you put the effort in. Other species wise, theres plenty of fish. However, this seasons probably been one of my worst on the river, and the same goes for everyone I think. The sewer spillage at richmond didnt do us any favours and the all round poor weather never realy spurred the fish into feeding mode, the thames takes a while to heat up. However I still caught plenty of fish. Spinning up the Ham side of the bank produced loads of specimine perch. I did most of my coarse fishing up stains way {wraysbury}. One night we had over 40lbs of bream out, quality stuff. Last season was probably the best at teddington, loads of big bream, chub, tench, roach, perch ect. Quiver tipping normally produces the bigger fish, but the mitton crabs pose a nasty problem, kill em if you catch em. Im just hoping next season brings more fish. Last season Id be catching 20-30 fish a day, this season was more like 5-10. |

Carp; legered fruit bolie (preferably jam) - Crab works well also seing as its in their diet now due to the mitton crab population. If you can be bothered to resent your baits, worm and strawberry corns always a winner also. And yerp alarm it and back lead it. Back leads are essentual, the rivers running fast at the moment. For Perch and chub use worm. For Tench and Bream, use worm and corn. (quiver tip) Ball out some sinking groundbait with some heavy pellets mixed in, feed in feeder every cast, and feed by hand every 30mins. Liquidised worm mixed in with this mix also works realy well and makes the balls disolve slower which is assentual as the current will chip away at them easily. The rivers fishing ok at the moment. Some big perch being caught to access of 3lbs. No word on the carp front though. hope this helps mate. |

| Re: River Thames |
ok then mate. Back leads are weights that you clip and slide down your line once your ledgered baits cast in. They pin the line to the bottom staight away, so the current or snags doesnt drag on your line. If your still unsure, ask someone in fishing unlimited and theyll show you how to clip em on and that if they know theyre making a sale. Any crab bolies should be fine. It might be an idea to find like, crab and tangereen or something. If not plain crab or fruit should be cool. |

Ive fished there once, which was a couple of weeks ago, for pike. We didnt catch, but its quite a in laugh there. We ended up coming in through a hole in the fence. Theres only about 5 decent swims on the whole lake though. its well woth a go though, I dont think ill return till sping however coz it seems pretty dead at the moment. My theory is that you can fish it on the off season becase its not owned by the EA. |
