Carping about a new holiday complex

MID KENT Fisheries, a division of Mid Kent Water which supplies water to many homes across the South East, has announced plans for a 300-acre carp fishing holiday complex.
The company is not yet revealing the precise location but the manager of the fisheries, Chris Logsdon, says the site is near the M20 motorway in the heart of Continued...

North Suffolk Anglers are reeling this week over news that a second low 20's Carp has come from Oulton Broad, This time the 22lb fish fell to floatfished Lobworm from the free jetty by the Boulevard. The captors remain anonymous but local sources tell me they were holiday anglers after perch. Where these fish have come from remains a mystery.

Royal aides said Prince Charles was keen to take over the work of the late Queen Mother, who had links with everything from cattle associations to cancer charities. He is taking over the patronage of 21 charities, including the Salmon and Trout Association.
It was his grandmother, who had a passion for angling, who first taught him to flyfish for trout and salmon.
Other groups include the Chelsea Physic Garden, The Garden Society, The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, The National Trust, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colours and the Aberdeen Angus Cattle Society.

More than 100,000 fish have been killed after insecticide entered a Lincolnshire river, the Environment Agency said last night.
Pollution tore through a 13-mile stretch of the River, killing brown trout, dace, perch, pike, roach, tench and eels. Investigators believe a powerful insecticide continued... |

Aberdeen, Scotland: The European Commission's [EC] Director-General of Fisheries, Jörgen Holmquist, told an audience in Brussels earlier this week: "Some of the accusations [against the fish farming industry] that we have seen in the media do not appear to be justified by scientific evidence."

Angling museum under threat

Fans of "a transcript of old English country life" are preparing to battle to save a Staffordshire museum.
The Isaak Walton Cottage in Shallowford, which has attracted 1,200 visitors this year, could face closure by Stafford Borough Council.
Mr Walton, the 17th-century author of The Compleat Angler, left the thatched, timber-framed cottage to the nearby city for the benefit of the poor, in his will.

 d.j.addi writes: Winter fishing at makins usually can be quite hard unless you fish there two or three times a year the best pools usually can be pool 1 and 4(phase 1) or all of phase 2 + 3. Pole fishing usually works well with light lines and small hooks but beware of unexpected bonus fish that might just snap you up. on Phase 1 maggots and corn are good for carp and roach but beware of bigger fish, float fishing with corn and maggot is a good way of fishing. The 'method' is good with single dead red maggot on a small hook. For carp anglers their is a good chance of a first '20' using brightly coloured boilies on a hair rig is a brilliant bait. Phase 2 + 3 are the basically the same way of fishing using the pole and corn or maggot and the method with dead red maggot. fishing in the margins is a brilliant way of fishing.
