Fishery Report 26-04-2009 The olives have put in their first appearance of the year, at the fishery during the past week. These large dry flies have proven to be a staple of the trouts diet during the spring/summer period, for many years. Their occurrence therefore is a source of pleasure for both the fish and fishermen alike. Albert Jones (Rasharkin) had the highest score on catch and release recently, due to his use of emerger patterns. Albert had 43 fish in total on Friday. Brian Barron (Belfast) had 21 using a combination of Shipmans and CDC emergers. He also retained one for exactly 3lb. Billy Todd (Belfast) had 16 during his excursion to the fishery and his were banked due to a mixture of dries and a black buzzer. Two more tagged fish winners have entered the hall of fame, with both of those anglers catching their prize winning fish on the same day. Eammon Kearns (Cloughmills) was the first angler who arrived at the office with his quarry. Eammon had caught his fish on a Black lure and was subsequently awarded a prize of £50. He also retained a trout for exactly 4lb. Colin Foster (Belfast) was the second angler to arrive at the lodge with fish in hand. Colin caught his trout on a Bloodworm and he was awarded a prize of £100. The evening fishing is beginning to pick up and a special evening catch & release ticket is available from 6pm for £8. Plenty of heavy fish bags are continuing to be weighed in at the fishery scales. Eddie Dawson (Donacloney) took five for 12lb 8oz on a Hares Ear. Steve Graham (Kells) retained four for 9lb 10oz thanks to a mixture of buzzers and dry fly. Jim Adamson (Belfast) had four for 9lb 3oz thanks to an Ace of Spades. Martin Allen (Magherafelt) had two for 6lb 8oz which fell to a flashback buzzer. Kenny Cowan (Ballyclare) had two for 6lb and 30 returned from a buzzer. Leslie Beggs (Belfast) kept one at 4lb 3oz and had eight in total on a Daddy Long Legs. Mark Mc Burney from the Tackle Box Randalstown will shortly be holding a demonstration day at the fishery. Mark will be showcasing the latest Wychwood Rods and anglers will have the opportunity to cast with those rods at the fishery. Information about this day will appear on the website shortly. We are participating in the MacMillan Big Fish 2009 competition this year, taking place on June 13th. See site for more details
