southampton report.

its febuary,- south coast is devoid of fish,( well almost)
but me and a m8 fished anyway.
at a popular winter match venue which has shown poor results of late even when the flounder were supposed to be there.

here;-

i fished for about 5 hours over high water coz at low water there's no water , 'tis a shallow muddy estuary which might have a flounder or 2 in at any other time of the year.

unsurpriseingly we blanked.

and on that note as the tide ebbed away i left to fish town quay over low water for an hour or 2 . to avoid a total blank.
town quay - short pier in southamptons dock area.
fished for just long enough to avoid the rain & and to catch a pout then went home.

I have never shore fished in salt water... thanks for the pictures, I see from your set up ..it's not at all different from Carp fishing.I do fish Land lock Salmon from my boat in Lake Ontario here in Canada... and in the spring and fall I fish for Steelhead(rainbow trout) and salmon using a 13 foot noodle rod, light action and a centre pin reel loaded with 6 pound mono line.... when you are fishing like the pictures above do you use those big rods all the time??
forgive all the questions but that type of fishing is new to me.

Phil

Hi Phil
Carp Fishing UK is totally different to the rod in the air type of rest we use for long distance shore casting
Sea fishing we tend to fish at leat two rods both can have 2-3 hook paternoster rigs on uless we are after big Sea Bass
I tend to put one rod out for Flatties and one for Bass/Cod/ whatevers there

this is my lightweight carp set-up I take when using my touring caravan (over yourside I think you would call it a towed or trailer RV) as we are limited to the amount of weight we can carry everything is aluminium /Carbon Fibre but the set-up is the same whether I'm at home or in France 2 1/2lb and 3lb test curve 11 and 12 foot rods with baitrunner reels with drop backs and alarms as well as un-hooking mats and carp safe nets

My Carp set up is Fox Stalker pod... Grays Protigy rods since we are only allowed one rod per angler,I bought a 2.0 ,2.5 ,3.0 and 3.5 tc ..to cover all angling situations, in the spring here most fish are to about 40 pounds with a 50 plus being caught every year, and I travel way to heavy
