Question Replacement Equipment

Hi All,

Returning to fishing after a few years break and need to replace all my gear as some toerag decided to nick it all while we were moving house (only have my rods, rest and brolley left)

I used to have two Abu reels, Abu 6500 (blue) and 6500 Mag(green). I loved these reels and had them for a long time, fishing from the beaches of Kent.

Question is, what should I get now, has anything new come to the market in the last few years to compete with these classics?

Also used to have a Coleman Northstar lamp which was great, but have the battery ones caught up in terms of usefulness recently)?

Suppose I'd better buy a magazine or two when I get the time to read some kit reviews....

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Andy.

Just brought a 7ht mag. Absolutely love it. very free running. I also have a mag elite, that runs a bit too freely, but if you had one before I think you'll get along fine with a 7ht mag. The best reel I've got is an Abu 6500 ultracast, it's just so forgiving. I've also got a northstar, and I don't think you can go wrong with them, although carrying the extra fuel this time of year is a bit of a bind. Good for heating pies on, which certainly cheers you up on a cold wet night. Glad to hear that your getting back into fishing, and hope that you have some good luck. Tight lines as they say

Thanks guys, looking at the price of the equipment, it's still very expensive!! Thought the price of these reels etc. would have dropped by now but hey ho!

I had a 7HT before and loved it but not as much as the Abu 6500's although I found it a bit more forgiving in bad weather.

Will keep scouring the Ebay auctions to see if I can get a bargain (I'm on a tight budget - we weren't able to claim for the stolen fishing gear so I've got to replace everything outta my own pocket - ouch!)

Many thanks.
Andy.
