Hi Guys, i have decided to add this thread, helping people with fish identification for sea fishing, as quite a few people need help with it. I've tried to make this as easy to use as possible, so i hope it helps!
Sea Fish Identification In 3 Easy Steps! STEP ONE: Colour - all fish: Fish is a light colour (green, blue etc. etc.) - go to step two. Fish is a dark colour (black, grey, brown etc. etc.) - go to step three. Fish is a shiny colour (silver, gold etc. etc.) - go to step four. STEP TWO: Patterns - light colour fish: Fish has no pattern - go to step five. Fish has stripes for a pattern - go to step six. Fish has spots for a pattern - go to step seven. STEP THREE: Patterns - dark colour fish: Fish has no pattern - go to step eight. Fish has stripes for a pattern - go to step nine. Fish has spots for a pattern - go to step ten. STEP FOUR: Patterns - shiny fish: Fish has no pattern - go to step eleven. Fish has stripes for a pattern - go to step twelve. Fish has spots for a pattern - go to step thrirteen. STEP FIVE: Shape - light colour fish with no pattern: Fish is flat (a flatfish) - your fish is a scaldfish. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a garfish. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a cod/codling. STEP SIX: Shape - light colour fish with stripes for patterns: Fish is flat (is a flatfish) - your fish is a plaice. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a striped sea bream. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a blue whiting. STEP SEVEN: Shape - light colour fish with spots for patterns: Fish is falt (is a flatfish) - your fish is a hornyheaded turbot. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a spotted sea trout. Fish is small/fat/cubby and compact - your fish is a spotted sea bream. STEP EIGHT: Shape - dark colour fish with no pattern: Fish is flat (is a flatfish) - your fish is a flounder. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a pollock. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a goby/rockling. STEP NINE: Shape - dark colour fish with stripes for a pattern: Fish is flat (is a flatfish) - your fish is a thickback sole. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a conger-eel. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a black sea bream. STEP TEN: Shape - dark colour fish with spots for a pattern: Fish is flat (is a flatfish) - your fish is a topknot. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a grey mullet or brown meagre. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a ballen wrasse. STEP ELEVEN: Shape - shiny fish with no pattern: Fish is flat - your fish is a white sea perch. Fish is long and thin (but not flat) - your fish is a mullet, a whiting,a sardine or a herring. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a sea bass. - also has spines on it's flank and belly. STEP TWELVE: Shape - shiny fish with stripes for a pattern: Fish is long and thin - your fish is a mackerel. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a striped sea bass. STEP THIRTEEN: Shape - shiny fish with spots for a pattern: Fish is long and thin - your fish is a pillchard. Fish is small/fat/chubby and compact - your fish is a golden mullet.
