Hi guys - i've decided to add this thread - to let people know what cash average they get if they sell their sea fish.
If you don't want to eat the fish you've caught, you can always sell them for that bit of extra money! Most supermarkets won't buy fish off you unless you: A - Already have a food contract with the supermarket. B - Are a local, well known fish monger who can promise to at least try to get weekly big fish. Although all fish-monger's, some chip-shops and some small shops, also along with your relitives will buy your fish off you. I've looked around, and sold some fish in some places myself, and here are the average prices you will get here in Cornwall for a sea fish caught on the same day (the longer you leave it - the less you'll get!): Freshley Caught: Bass: £5 per lb. Mackerel: £1 per lb. Pollack: 80p per lb. Cod: £2.50 per lb. Plaice: £1.50 per lb. Whiting: £1 per lb. Turbot: £1.80 per lb. Halibut: £1.60 per lb. Salmon: £1 per lb. Sea Trout: £1.20 per lb. These are the average prices i found here in Cornwall. I caught at least 1 of each of those fish and sold different amounts to 5 different places. At the moment, bass are the most expensive and pollack are the least expensive - although pollack charges are going up on demand as cod is becoming very rare and endangered - so will soon be the most expensive. I hope this info helps a little! It might show you what's worth selling and what's best leaving to yourself! Tight Lines! |

Not with valuable things like bass but with mackerel and pollack and things like that i ussaly take a gamble with them and use them as bait in hope of catching bigger ones. And yes you can batter a fish. Last edited by The Cornish Kingfisher : 09-04-2008 at 03:33 PM. |

YEAH! Well - you don't have to sell all the fish. If i caught a 20lb bass I would probley have 5lb of it for myself and sell like 3lb each to 5 different places - cause i'd probly get more for it that way. I know someone who once got £50 in a fish-monger for an 8lb bass he caught. Last edited by The Cornish Kingfisher : 09-04-2008 at 03:39 PM. Reason: Spelling AGAIN! :( |
