Hi guys! I have decided to post this new thread, all about catching mackerel - to help people learn about the best baits, locations, lures, methods and everything else for catching them!
METHODS AND RIGS: The best method for fishing off the shore and off a boat for mackerel, i find is lure fishing with lures of feathers. The best floats to use are the big, fat, chubby ones. The best weights to use are between 4oz and 8oz. Use medium sized swivels. Use medium sized booms. Have a medium sized discoruger ready. Use medium - large hooks with 2 - 3 barbs. The best line to use is probley a 20lb - 30lb main line, and a 10lb - 20lb trace. BAITS: The best baits for mackerel are crabs and sand-eel or sand-lance whilst useing the float. They will also feed on smaller fish. LURES: The best lure for mackerel are feathers. You can also use spinners and wobblers. LOCATIONS: For good locations for mackerel, look out for: Fast flowing waters at breakwaters and piers. Active sewage outlets. Diving birds suggest mackerel around. THE SEASONS (based on the UK's typical weather patterns - may vary): The main season for mackerel is between April and November. I hope this information helps! Tight Lines and the very best of luck! ![]() Last edited by The Cornish Kingfisher : 08-24-2008 at 07:05 PM. |
