Smile Sea Fish Size Limits - Know Them!

Hi Guys, i have decided to post this thread, to help people remember what the size limits are for taking home sea fish that you've caught.
Here they are in alphabetical order:

By the way, just in case you don't know, MAFF stands fo Ministry of Agreculture, Foristries and Fishing.
And NFSA stands for National Federation of Sea Anglers.

MAFF SIZE LIMITS (cm & in):
Bass - 36cm/14in.
Blue ling - 70cm/28in.
Saithe - 35cm/14in.
Cod - 35cm/14in.
Haddock - 30cm/12in.
Hake - 27cm/11in.
Herring - 20cm/8in.
Ling - 63cm/25in.
Mackerel - 30cm/12in North Sea, 20cm/8in Other.
Megrim - 20cm/12in.
Plaice - 27cm/11in.
Pollock - 30cm/12in.
Salmon - 58cm/23in (Scotland Only).
Sea Trout - 30cm/12in (Scotland Only).
Sole - 24cm/10in.
Scad - 15cm/6in.
Whiting - 27cm/11in.

NFSA SHORE SIZE LIMITS (cm & in):
Bass - 41cm/16in.
Red Bream - 25cm/10in.
Black Bream - 24cm/9.5in.
Brill - 35cm/14in.
Blue Ling - 70cm/28in.
Bull Huss - 58cm/23in.
Saithe - 35cm/14in.
Cod - 35cm/14in.
Conger-eel - 91cm/26in.
Dab - 20cm/8in.
Spotted Dogfish - 38cm/15in.
Flounder - 25cm/10in.
Garfish - 38cm/15in.
Haddock - 30cm/14in.
Hake - 30cm/12in.
Herring - 20cm/8in.
Ling - 72cm/28in.

ALL WEIGHT LIMITS (kg and lb):
Halibut (Shore) - 10kg/22lb.
Halibut (Boat) - 3kg/6.6lb.
Monkfish (Shore & Boat) - 7kg/15.5lb.
Sharks (Shore) - 18kg/40lb.
Sharks (Boat) - 23kg/50.7lb.
Tope (Shore & Boat) - 9kg/20lb.

Please contact the National Federation of Sea Anglers (NFSA) for an un-mentioned, unclassified or unidentifyed species, for more information on the size limits.

Thank you very much! I fish off wrecks - mainly for tope and stuff, and although i've been fishing for nearly a decade - i didn't know any of the size limits!
No problem - i do now - and i f i do forget - i know where to come!

Thank you so very much! I didn't copy and paste this information, i just had to double check online if it was accurate - but apart from double checking it (the info is right by the way), it's just from my personal knowledge of sea fishing.

Hi fishywishy, welcome to the site! It's a great place and i'm very sure you'll enjoy it here - and of course - welcome to fishing - i know your a new angler so good luck and ask me for anything if you need it!

I've just added the weight limits for sea trout and salmon on the main post - sorry, i must have missed them out.
But they are for Scotland only - sorry but i couldn't find out anywhere else, they must vary from place to place - contact the NSFA for more info.
