Smile Know Your Sea Fishing Tackle!

Hi Guys, i've decided to post this new thread, to help begginers about what tackle is best, and what sizes to use.

FLOATS:
Floats are wooden or polystrine long tubes that sit above the water. The have a yellow, red or orange tip so you can see them in the daylight, and some glow so you can see them as dusk aswell!
he best types of floats for sea fishing, are the big, fat, chubby ones.
Shakespere sell really good floats fo sea fishing.
There are two types of floats - self-cocking, and non-self-cocking.

WEIGHTS:
Weights for sea fishing are small balls of melted lead or iron. They come in many different sizes, but the best ones for sea fishing are the medium sized ones, weighing between 3oz and 6oz. Fishing with a bit of weight is also known as ledgering, and is the best method for fishing off a boat.

LURES:
Lures come in many different, shapes, sizes and colours. They are used to 'lure' the fish into you. They can have single, double or treble hooks. There are many different types of lures, so see my lures post for more information!

HOOKS:
Hooks are obviosly the long, sharp pieces of metal that you catch gets hooked on. They also come in many different sizes, and are best for sea fishing when they are barbed. They can come as single barbed, double barbed or treble barbed.

RODS AND REELS:
As you know, the obviose 2 essentails for any type of fishing are a rod and a reel! For sea fishing in Cornwall, your best bets are 20lb - 30lb main lines, with a 10lb - 15lb trace on a telescopic rod.

NETS:
The best nets for sea fishing are telescopic landing nets that are great for bringing in your fish when you are fishing off the rocks or off a boat.

SWIVELS:
Swivels, as you may know, are the small metal figures of eight that are used to attach your main line to your tarce line. The best hooks for sea fishing are the medium sized - large ones.

And of course remember when fishing, take some scales and/or a tape measure - for when you bring in a whoppa!
I hope this information helps!
Tight Lines!

From my knowledge and experiance, i would personly say no - polystirine floats are good for freshwater fishing, but are to delicate and weak for sea fishing - especilly off the rocks, they can break very easily. Big, fat, chubby, bright, wooden floats are the best ones for sea fishing.

I've just added a poll, by the way. It's asking you what your favorite method is and it askes you the BASIC options. By the way - as you may know - my favorite method is the float!
