Lightbulb Making Ground-bait For Sea Fishing.

Hi guys, i thought I'd post this thread to help sea anglers, beginners and pro's, get to grips with their ground-bait!

Ground-bait is a really good idea to lure the fish into the area that your fishing at. It is a popular method that can be used on a boat or off the shore.
Sea fishing ground-bait is also known as swim-feeding or chumming.
It is basically a thick, pink paste of meaty and fishy things that you can buy from your local angling shop as a whole (it's quite expensive, though)! Or make it yourself, also known as ''pre-baiting''.

SHIRVY, the most common type of sea ground-bait, is composed of mince meat, meat fat, bran and fish blood, that are mixed up to create a thick mixture. For other ground-bait, there is also SHORE-GROUND-BAITING, BAIT DROPPING, RUBBY-DUBBY and BIG-GAME GROUND-BAITING.

This is how to make your own ground-bait for sea fishing:
.1. - Sea fishing ground-bait is usually composed of other dead oily fish. Such as chopped up mackerel, sardine and herring etc. etc. It's might be a good idea to add bran to the mixture, to suck up the oil and the blood.
.2. - It is also good to add some pillchard oil, extra fish oil and liquidized.
.3. - Just mix all of this together in a mixing bowl. Once all of the fish, oil and bran is in, add some bread crums, extra good chopped-up meat and left-over baits such as worm, crab and squid from your last fishing trip. The more ingredients, the more attractive the mixture is (to the fish)!
.4. - Give them all a good mix and crush, until the mixture turns into a think paste, that should be pink or red.
.5. - If your going to freeze your ground-bait, it might be a good idea to add some salt, as this will make it freeze at a lower temperature, therefore making it more fresh when you take it out. Put the mixture into a food bag, and then this can be left in the freezer for ages, but it might start to smell really bad after a while!

TIP: You might want to add some food-coloring as well. For sea fishing, it might be best to use red or pink.

I hope this information helps!

Thanks for the help - always needed it with groundbait.
But i have a question:
I'm going fishing with my 2 freinds next week. Would you suggest making like a triangal area of groundbait -
Like, so this paticular area is surrounded by the bait?

Good luck with that. I would advise it - it would actully be a pretty good idea to try it off the rocks. If you make the ground-bait, put them equally in 3 cages, and then each of you can use one, to lure the fish into your fishing area. Nice thinking!

Message for each of you:

Carping on: Rubby-dubby is a form of ground-bait mainly compossed of oily fish such as mackerel, sardine and herring that are all sqaushed into a thick and pickish paste.

Timmoblack: It depends on what the quality of the feeder is. If is is one with quite a few large holes - it will fall oyt really easily and you will need to get on a boat to get it that far. If it has smaller holes - you can try throwing it out. It might also be handy to use a bait bag for the ground-bait.
