First of all tonytiddler, welcome to the site - i'm sure you'll be happy here.
Secondly, don't worry if your not catching much - i'm sure you know that even the best anglers in the world have their good days and bad days - it'll get better! Finnaly, yes, you can use dead-bait. The best dead-baits for sea fishing are other oily fish that you can use from last catches or buy in a bait shop. The best types of dead-bait to use are mackerel, herring, bluey and sardine. These can be on the hook as a whole or chopped up in fillets. If you don't mind dead sand-eel or sand-lance, they can also be usefull. On the other hand if you still don't want to use dead things, you can also use the following: Bread flakes (good for catching sea bream). Boilies (the HP bait, see above). Lures (wobblers, spoons, tails, wedges, blinkers etc. etc.). Sea-mince. Saltwater flies. Raisens. Fruit. Pellets. Sweetcorn. Hemp seeds. Groundbait (see the ground-bait section above). Pasta. or Luncheon Meat (sausage meat is also effective). I hope this helps and the best of luck! Tight Lines! ![]() Last edited by The Cornish Kingfisher : 08-09-2008 at 07:50 PM. OH MY GOD! Josh, your brain is like a library of angling info - how dosn't your brain explode with all of this fishing knowledge - i've seen all of your posts and they are great!
Just out of my curiosity, by the way, were are you getting all of this information from? |

I find for sea fishing, it's best to gamble with your small catches for bigger ones!
If you catch crabs, use them as bait for mackerel, herring, salmon, bluey and sardine, and then when you catch them, use them as bait for sea bass, tope, catfish, dogfish and sharks! Gamble your baits in hope of catching more - i works for me! Or, of course, if you would rather stay on the safe side, just buy some ragworm, sandeel and use it safely! ![]() Thank you so very much. I get ALL of this information from my own general knowledge - i promise - i don't copy and paste ANY of it. The only time i use the internet for help with this info - is to double check that i've got it right, true and accurate before i submit the post. The only other place i got information from is a range of fishing books, but i didn't just copy them either, i take them into my knowledge and put it into my own words.
