if you want to sort out a few of the bigger ones, definitely live or dead baiting with a gudgeon/minnow etc, or if you know there are bigger ones in there, a 3 or 4 or 5lb'er could easily take a 6/7 inch roach or bigger (honestly they take amazingly big baits) and if there are pike use the thinnest trace you can get away with so you dont keep getting bitten off. that or lures/spinners/jigs. happy fishing!!

Small livebaits for me! Normally fished on a light paternoster setup. I used to be worried about livebait size but some of the 2-3lb'rs plus will hammer some big ole livies! I normally try to use a bait in the 3" to 4" region though. Give it a go... ok jacks sometimes whack em but if there is a perch about you are in with a damn good chance!
As for wire trace, if i know there are pike about i rig it up with 15lb soft wire. Doesn't seem to put them off too much, well not so far anyway! Mark pike and perch.co.uk |

perch bait
I don't really associat big perch with cold weather
I Guess they must feed when I have had then this time of year its been to lures usually plugs that look like small perch ,they also like yellow rappala's lures have have given me perch to 2lb 10 oz My fave bait howevers free lined worm this has accounted for perch to 4lb 4oz I always use barbless hooks this is especially handy as perch can some time get more deeply hooked then most fish good luck |
