Dead Baiting

im going to dead bait in this stream can i have tips on how because i have never deadbaited before i'm normally spinning any tips
what deadbait shall i use and how do i get it i dont particulary want a big pike obviously it would be nice but even a large perch or small pike i just want A fish on deadbait in this stream to proove my family i can catch?

do i use a ledger or what?

do i do anything to the deadbait like slit its belly to let juices run?

how long shall i wait before moving to a different place?

is it better to plonk it near sides or features like a bit of reed at the side?

do eels and perch go for deadbait too?

any tips would be a very big help thankyou?

never fished db in a stream, does it even hold big pike? best tip with selection is use fish species that are present in the stream as bait. Hook it through its lip/head and just under the dorseal fin if its a big enough bait, ledger or float or float ledger, depends on the flow.

it mainly holds roach so that will be a good dead bait and ive been told thats there quite a few around 6lb pike but there is a 18lb in there but its very hard to get.

Sorry, but you should NEVER ! hook a pike deadbait in the head....no need..............if you are live baiting its very different, as you hit them very quick, but a deadbait NO as you will 9/10 deep hook the fish...Pike swallow bait head fisrt and if you get a fish that wolfs a bait down and your hooks are in the head !!...you are going to deep hook for sure and then have to reverse its stomach to get the hooks and it aint the way its done...
Hooking the bait in the root of the tail (rod tip side treble hook) and the end treble hook half way down the body is spot on for presitation, casting and hooking the fish when you get a take..

A fishing tackle shop is always a good start...or mail order even, maybe go catch some Mackerel if you are by the sea before you pike fish first !! but most people would not have to think twice but head to a tackle shop mate..
