catfish

hello all, right i am going on abit of a mission on friday found a place that has cats in, there not huge fish but the biggest is around 16lb, i am looking for any advice, or am i waisting my time in this wether? the pond also has grass carp up to 12lb and the rest a mixed bag. so any tips on bait etc welcome as i am going in abit blind? i am using my carp rods 2.5 test, and 12lb main line through to fox armadillo braid 45lb with size 2 hook. and the pond is not that big in size so was only going to use 1oz bomb. i have a few rig diagrams one a pop up for worms. and just hair rigs.

Ive ever been for catfish myself as they dont interest me but i hooked one in a lake in wigan, they are a regular catch and all about 2-3lb, perhaps someone knows about this lake?? anywayz, about worms, obviously they love them but also alot of other species do, id think a dead bait would be best. . . maybe a head of a roach or somethings, make sure alot of scent is out in the water.

Tackle sounds about right for small cats. Deadbaits pref oily fish. Boilies fishmeal, are good. Worms are ok but i tend not to use them. Herring, mackerel, roach etc. They do turn off when it gets cold so i imagen you might have to wait until next year, they are very nocturnal.

Catfish like it a little warmer, so you might struggle a bit this time of year, but if you are gonna have a go, once you got over your man flu, i would hit the deep water on this lake/pond or a snaggy area, if the pond has pike then a deadbait aint best to use, cause pike will pick up first !! but if no pike its worth a go with a deadbait, but i would use leeches as catfish love them..
