Red face Thank you guys.

Gentlemen and ladies.
Advice was taken on where to fish and how.
I would like to thank you all for your advice
The result is a 38 inch Pike. I have photos but can't upload them at the moment.
What a fight. Fishing a canal between the moorings on one side and the weeds on the opposite side of the bank.
the technique: Dead bait, paternoster rig, 24 inches below the surface, just off a weed bed
Please keep the information coming.

Somebody told me today that there is no point in fishing for pike in the summer. I would like to say here and now. Nonsense, if this bad fishing conditions, I can't wait until we get good fishing conditions

So the question is how do I convert the length into weight?
I can't afford to buy scales this month.

You cant You can take a guess by comparing to other fish you have caught.. As with carp some are fat and some have longer boddies... If you are going the specimen route I would defiantly get yourself some scales.. you can get them pretty cheap £15-£20

Glad the sites helping you, try and get those pics uploaded and maybe we can have a guess for you..

I am trying to reduce the size of the photo. Apparrantly it has too many bites.
If someone could tell me how to do that I will happily post the photo.
The wife thinks 20 - 24lbs. I think 16 - 18lbs my brother thinks 12 to 16lbs.

At any rate, what ever the size the memory of the fight will stay with me forever. The adrenilin rush combined with the trepadation of the hook coming out, the fear of the line getting caught and snapped under the boats, The fear of the weed beds and of course whether the net is big enough. Then the relief and pure joy of succeeding in the contest

Buddy, I bought a set of scales for £19.99 they are accuate and small enough to fit in a side pocket.
I now need to catch something big enough that will justify using them.
Wish me luck

Pike over 30lb are 45 plus inches long without doubt, Neville Flicklings 41lb-06oz fish from Martham on the Thurne went 49 1/2" long in 1985 and i have a cased mid twenty Pike over my fireplace that measures 41" long so would guess the fish you had would have been around the 22lb mark...
