Lightbulb Tips for Pike

Right-Ho, I'm off to Ireland in September, and i'm going to try my hand at a bit of Pike Fishing. I'll be with someone who has done it before, and they have all the equipment needed e.g forceps.

I was just wondering if anyone could give me tips, because ive never tried it before, not on tackle, just technique etc, so i dont look like a n00b ?

Thanks

I don't go often but I think in the winter you have to find any deep holes.LOL! Anyway, they arnet as active in winter so you really gotta wind em up with dead bait or a spinner(or live bait if it's allowed,it isnt on my local lake).if I got any of this wrong I'm sure a moderator will yell at me sometime!LOL hope this helps

If i was fishing in ireland i'd have my feeder rod out for the bream and a one or two sleepers with deadbaits out in likely spots. That way i'd know i was gonna catch a big bag of fish (Ireland is famous for HUGE bream bags) and i had a good chance at getting a pike

I'm hoping to go to ireland next year maybe. No doubt i'll have a go for pike while i'm there

Winter is the BEST time for pike fishing, you could try a pop up dead bait like a Roach or use Smelt as these are very buoyant.....the best way to make a pop up dead bait is to insert a balsa wood stick in to (via mouth) it needs to be only a couple of inches in length this will give the bait plenty of buoyancy but in deep water it would pay to use Lures or at least have some with you...it might pay to watch a video on pike fishing (plenty on you tube) and watch what baits they use and how to use them....look for Pike fishing in Ireland seeing what is done is much better than listening.....

i fish for pike all year round & get some good results doing this some dead bait & a tin of tuna in brein & mix them up if you can get hold of some netting ie the stuff that is used for bird feeders pore some & cast in/out leaving a good scent. every so often i will reel in just a couple of times just to spread the smell i will cast one rod out far in deep water & the other in shallow water i will leave the bait in the water as long as poss i know that sounds a lot to do but i have been lucky with it i got 15lb pike from loch awe 2 weeks ago my m8 got 7lb. if you think you have a fish on strike dont wait or you will have problems getting the hooks out. tight lines all the best
