Anytime is a good time for Perch
No problems using keepnets their spines are not barbed just try not to put extra large ones in with small fish ou may find you have a couple of fish less when you empty it

Hi cavanman.....i would go a little further than say anytime is good for perch..i find that over cast conditions is the best not sunny days....perch have very sensative eyes and do not like sunlight thats why they have big eyes for seeing in very low light conditions and also why you find them in and around tree roots and other things like that....it keeps them well protected from the light....if it is only perch you seek then worms is the bait and plenty of them...if you use small dead bait or live it will pull in the pike and the same with lures in such cases you will need to use a wire trace but with worms i would think you are safe...i have not caught a pike on worms but plenty of perch with my best being 4lb 10oz...so dull overcast conditions and deep water maybe is a good target other wise look for the snags and over hanging trees...thats where they will be...good luck!

Thanks for the info mr.well I've never caught a perch and would love to, I'd say they'd give a better fight than the roach the lake i usually fish must not have perch in it or surely i would've hooked one? Might specifically try for one there tomorrow though. see if i have any luck. Oh would it be ok to put roach/rudd in a keepnet with perch?

Hi CAVANMAN...Perch can give you a good fight the big ones mainly though....use chopped worm and maggot feed use a little groundbait to stiffen the mix...make into a ball and throw in fish over the top of this and you should catch Perch if there in there that is...feed plenty of maggots or worm sections or both...perch are greedy feeders and will clean up the feed in no time.
You can put Roach/Rudd in nets with Perch but i would think about putting a big Perch in with small Roach/Rudd after all they are there main food but you can put small Perch in with big Roach/Rudd with out to many problems...all the best
