Eel fishing

this summer i intend to do alot of night fishing on the river severn. i would like some advice on targeting eels. the river bed where i live is a mixture of soft sand and hard stones so im not sure what the eels will be feeding on, worms or live/dead baits. any help would be appreciated

As long as u use swivel and replace the hookline after every catch. This is because of the eels slime will discourage other fish.As for the bait I would use a meat bait or worm, maggot.you can fish with dead bait but I have never found any need to try it.

hope this help

that advice seems very general to me. those baits would catch alot of other fish. i wanted to know about specifically catching eels

The only Eel fishing I have done is on the Bure

my tactics eventually were to use a ledger float and this gave me the sensitivity to lip hook every one I caught
without the float ledger I would have to do what Parker suggested of changing hook lengths every catch
