Hi Dan
Large Pike float or bubble (not BUNG though not sensitive never responds) set it similar to a Carp Float but remember that you may need to pop-up the bait to allow it a bit of drift and visibility so you will need some foam or cork to stuff it with

Freezing damages the swim bladder and I must also add never had a problem with freshly dead fish either as the bladder is controlled when the fish is alive and always seems not to have any gas in when a fish dies

Gray puts his work hat on and says (I'm a nurse for those of you who don't know and I've got a back injury)

Without knowing your injury or cause I can only offer suggestions

So...

check the way you stand with a rod don't over compensate for the weight of the rod Sit down if you can

When spinning and you gave to stand try using something to lean on to help protect your lower back from the weight

Before you go do some simple stretching exercises
DO THIS SLOWLY
lay on your side on the floor
put your arm straight up and lock it there
now keeping your hips vertical rotate your shoulders backwards keeping the arm locked --
go as far back as you can without pain 10 times
then repeat on the other side

this will ease the lower back and help reduce any pain caused by twisting when using the spinning rod

there are other things but I would need to see you fish before I could give you any more specific answers
