Gravel Pits

Hi,

I am trying a gravel pit which I have fished on quite a few times but never for pike which I am trying on monday. I will be dead baiting with sardines on a float. This is my first time dead baiting so if anyone has any pointers I will be glad to have them. The pits called longwater lake in reading you can google it under RDAA .

Anyone have any tips especially for fishing gravel pits?

Tom.

I'd have more than one type of bait try some mackerel as well

fish into the wind near some nice reeds that have gaps

don't try to fish more than 2 rod lengths out to start with unless you know there are fish in a certain area

Wrap up warm

Why only 2 rod lengths?

A lot of people think that you have to chuck to the horizon when the Pike are sat in the reeds 2 rods away

I agree with all of that, I've fished for pike for over 20 years and I've had more fish a couple of rod lengths out than I ever had at a distance.
I would try coarse fish too though as some sea baits seem to fail in some waters, I would also try popping the bait off the bottom, remember a Pikes eyes are on top of its head
