Smile pike

Hi.

me and my friend are just getting into pike fishing. today we had our first big pike ( 7 lb ) we are only used to unhooking jack pikes. we didnt no how to lift it out by hand where this would of been better than netting it today. can anyone give me some tips on chinning them or any general tips.

thanks Jack

Hello mate, i chin out 95% of my fish, the key thing to do mate is make sure the fish is well played out in the water, if not.. any size fish can still go a little crazy!!if you don't.....when the fish looks settled and you have her in close, just slip your fingers under the gill flap and up to the "v" (UNDER THE CHIN) then just lift......watch the gill rakers!!..........(BUT THIS IS ONE BIG THING TO REMEMBER!!!).....always try to look into the mouth of the pike before you hand out just to see the positions of the hooks......................you don't want to be sliding your hands up the gill attatching to treble hooks and pike at the same time !! not good...........
Well done on you catch mate hope this helps??..........

Thumbs up

Spot on mate, nice one be lucky.....remember if you have a good amount of water in front of your swim keep that deadbait moving re-cast every hour, sure you will drop a bait on the pikes head at some point..... get a photo if you get a beast..
