pike in canal

hi, im not sure if pike are in my local canal the river lud through louth, lincolnshire not the biggest of canals but it has waterfalls ever so often along the canal area that i fish (there pretty big drops about 15ft) it has good numbers of roach perch and trout.. is it possible that pike are living there?? and in the deepest bit where i catch trout id say its about 5-6ft. if you think there might be a few about what tactics should i use????

If there's fish there's Pike
As it's winter try a dead bait --Mackerel are allowed you can get into trouble using freshwater dead baits as folk assume they're from elsewhere and worry about transfer of diseases

Now that's an answer that I can't give every water is different so it's trial and error

start off with half a joey and work up

If you're doing a pop up why not use a running leger but don't strike too early

ill probly go for a paternoster ill start with sprat,, no luck go onto makeral and ajust throughout the day, this is if its good weather, and at the moment waters are fairly high and murky due to alot of heavy rain. is this a good period or bad period for it to be high water levels and slight murky?

Personally I've found coloured water to be best for Piking as they can hide better so attack with more confidence

pike are a bloddy nuisance when trotting, especially in coloured water when they come out and attack your fish!!, but then again if you fish for them where i live, no luck at all??
