if i'm honest mate i don't wanna come off as a bit of a D**K but i wouldn't go, if your new to pike fishing and have never handled a pike before don't do it because it could end up a bit of a mess for one of you ( you or the pike) what you should do is go with an experienced pike angler and let them show you how to handle the pike correctly so it doesn't distress or damage the fish or injure you with the trebles and teeth pike can be very difficult to handle if you've never done it before.

NOT Sorry but I agree

IF you've never fished for pike then go with someone who does it regularly
Pike are quite a fragile fish and need more careful handling than Carp

im off to chew just outside bristol, very big water but the powers that be wont let you use fresh water baits, sea fish only. something to do with disease's, but have been told stories and seen pics of some real monsters!
so hopefully have a good day!

ill keep yopu all updated on how things go.

well uve gotta start somewhere so im not totally against you going but make sure you have some long forcepts, erm personally id put a simple pike float with 12lb+ main line then attach a deadbait wire trace and stick on a smallish mackeral or sprat and wait dont keep reeling in and trying somewhere else leave it trust me theyl find it, if not a bite after an hour chuck it somewhere else.. or leger a paternoster rig with a sprat on buzzers but i usually go for float. and again make sure you have long forcepts.. benifits you and the pike.

I've always found Sprat a little soft on the long cast which is why I like Joey more but as a good bait with plenty of oil to attract got to agree they are good but I prefer them fried and on my plate

lol...i find that with sprats and after speaking with other pike fishermen have over come the flying of the hooks problem. but some bait elastic (elastic line) which you can wrap around your bait, securing it to your trace. giv it a go m8
