Thumbs up Some help and assistance

Hi everyone,

this is my first time on the site. Im after some basic advice and info please. My grandad alfie used to take me fishing as a little girl, but that was years ago.

What size rod should i get, or am i better getting a pole?

Is there not a risk i wont be able to handle a pole?

How can i get my hands on a good pole?

What length pole do i need?

Also because i dont like handling maggots, which other baits can you suggest?

Kelly

11 metres is a good starting size
stiff poles are better for windy conditions
elastic rating of 12 to 20 meaning it will play well with a carp
needs a spare top 2 opr 3 section so you can keep different elastics in each section
smooth finish not ragged
you will expect to pay from £100 to £300

if you are match fishing style you could buy a match rod about 12ft long or a feeder rod

if carp fishing use a rod with a test curve of 2.5 this should land most commercial carp

i hope this helps

I think you might need to get over your fear of maggots as they are a fantastic all round bait, of course there is boilie, pellet ,corn ,paste, meat ,cheese and all other sorts of baits. If you look around you can find starter kits and all sorts of beginners combos that might suit you for starting up.Check out our store if you have a chance at Top Fishing Tackle - Fishing Rods, Reels and Bait. and there are lots more out thereoffering kits and combos too.You might want to consider a whip before learning to use a pole.
Good Luck .

Red face

Hi Kelly,

Definately use maggots. They are great!

Me & my boyfriend Dirk go fishing a lot, and I can definately handle his pole, but I am unsure of the name of it. All I know is it's black, long and quite slender! I call it Beefy though!

Its an 11 incher. The best. Pure magic

if you are having trouble with maggots .......i used to get my son to wear latex gloves because he used to moan about the smell of em. or you could use a sterile wipe after you finish the session

please let me know how you are getting on
you could always use fake maggots

worms chopped up
sweetcorn from the supermarket
casters
pellets

good luck
