Pellets can be a cracking bait to use. I use them on Rivers for Chub and Barbel. When I use them i have 6mm, 8mm, or 10mm on the hook using a bait band.
Size 16 hook For 6mm
Size 14 hook for 8mm
Size 12 hook for 10mm
When you get to the bigger sizes 12mm+ i like to hair rig those.

yeah pellets are great to catch a lot of fish with.if they are soft i go straight on the hook with a 6mm one while i feed 3mm sinking pellets to make a good ground feeder.
you could also use 3mm pellets as a groundbait then fish with maggots over the top i have caught many carp, bream roach like this
if you find it hard to hook the bait you can hook them through the rounded part & not through the circle part...a bit hard to explain.
have you tried paste??? this can be done by grinding the pellets in a blendor then add 2 eggs. or you can buy paste from a tackle shop.
if you are using pellets in winter try to use ones with a low oil content.

i hope this helps a bit
good luck

What a mess when we use pellet as paste all we do is once they're soaked then we take a couple and massage them into paste and squeeze it on to a hook may only last one Cast but when they give you a fish a chuck who cares

Must ask the question are they any good???
how soft is the metal - - - -don't want to damage the fish too much other than a hook hole

i really like them, i have never been in a stiuation were i have see or damaged any fish, it normaly just lies out side the fish's mouth, just as a hair rig would. the spike its self is stiff but you could bend it if it were in the way. give them a try thay take a tiny bit of getting used and you can use them to fish mini bollies as well,
