Zander and Walleye Stizostedion sp are both in the same family. Both species are similar but not the same.

And AFAIK there are only Zander in the UK the Walleye being more American based although THEY (the septic Tanks) call the Zander a European Walleye because they can't use the Real name as it's not American enough
the same reason the call the Pike the Northern Pike (the "southern" Pike is a member of the Tarpon family -the Snook )

There has been record's of released Walleye Stizostedion vitreum caught in the UK although they tend not to do well here. There isnt any record of breeding and it's highly unlikey that you will catch one.

apparently in a place called st helens inbetween warrington and liverpool years ago there was a stretch of canal known locally as the hotties where water from the canal was used to cool down the glass at the pilkingtons factory then the hot water pumped back into the canal

apparently at the time people where catching cichlids and lots of tropical fish that had been let loose in the canal

i wonder what other fish there are in our rivers and canals that have escaped and can live here or live in certain places here

Similar things used to hapen on the Trent in the 70's due to the power stations Also UK fish were growing larger due to the warmer water

Not anymore I'm afraid

There are afew lake's where they seemed to survive for longer period's, although as you say they did not adjust the UK waterways.

To generalise the same can be said for Large mouth bass another American species that struggles in the UK
