Is this normal?
I have joined this forum today to share my tale with maybe more experienced anglers and get your opinions. I was out walking last weekend when I found a little stream in place it was only a foot wide and an inch deep, but in other places maybe got to be 3-4ft deep and 2ft wide. Not really somewhere you would expect to see fish of any size. However to my suprise I saw a dead fish in some reeds that must have been about 10lb It was long dead and I was unable to identify it. At that point another similiar size fish shot from one bank to the other in water barely deep enough to accomodate it. Now I doubt this stream gets fished you wouldnt think it was worth it being so shallow. Is this common for shallow streams to be so full of life and big fish? what might the fish be?

Re: Is this normal?
Hi Paul welcome to the forum
Fish tend to grow to a size depending on how much food they eat and their enviroment. The bigger the pool/lake/stream the bigger they can grow. I would think it near on impossible to find a 10lb fish in the conditions you mentioned. It may be the case the stream comes from a lake or pool somewhere, the fish died and was carried down. Any idea what fish it was? |

Re: Is this normal?
No this is not the case, I saw a Live fish of similar size they are living there. Is there a site I can go to with pictures of fish and I will identify it. I am going to try and fish there next weekend I will take the digi cam and camcorder and show you all the results. Is it possible that I have found a spot that has layed undisturbed for many many years which has plentyful supply of food and allowed fish to grow in size. Maybe in the rains they have been washed down from a lake upstream? But I am guessing they live there. like I said in placed the stream deepens and widens but I was amazed to see fish of this size lurking in the reeds. If there is a good site I can use to identify them let me know.

Re: Is this normal?
Yes I think you are right even before reading this I looked on http://www.fishing-in-wales.com/wild...shes/index.htm and thought that the fish I had seen was a Chub. it had very large scales and a stubby tale. I am amazed such large fish can live in such waters. I will atempt to catch one soon and send in pics if your interested.
I guess catching them will be simple as they will have never been fished for before. Whats the chub record in size I could spend a year feeding these up then catch them ![]() |
