Question Big Roach

Hey everyone, was out fishin for roach at the weekend and was catching loads of tiny ones! any tips on how to attract the bigger ones to the hook? I put out some homemade groundbait and was usin 3 maggots on a size 14 hook at a depth of about 4 feet or maybe a bit deeper. got about 50 bites, but 90% were pretty small. few good enough ones of 1lb+ which i'd be happy enough with. All Tips and advice are welcome

It's a lake i was fishing at. not a huge lake either. there's pike in the lake also, at least up to 15lb as i seen one being caught. the lake isn't fished much at all. it's on a quiet road and rarely see anyone at it. I'm sure there's some good sized roach in it, rudd too. never caught any perch in it so not sure if they're in it. any tips would really help. I'm gonna fish it again tomorrow hopefully from a different part of the lake, but like i said, it's not a huge lake.

try fishing a bit deeper maybe. put a small shot above your hook to get it to sink faster, so the little fish dont hammer it as soon as it gets in the water. i think persistance will pay off, feeding a few maggots every couple of minutes. you will start off catching the little roach but hopefully as they get more confident, and if you dont over feed the swim, they will become competitive and the larger fish will start to bully the small fish away. bread can also be a good roach bait when used with a white crum groundbait

Was attractin bigger ones today, was seriously hot day here today though so wasn't huge amount of bites, missed a few too, but think i should've used a bigger hook. Roach were goin for sweetcorn on a hook, and the tiny ones were leaving it alone so i wasn't tortured like i was when usin maggots

yeh, its best to go when its just gettin light and before the suns pounding down on you. I tried a different lakes today (club has 3). First one had too much weed and was unfishable, but the second produced loads of small tench which were a pleasure to catch if you ever get the chance to fish an estate lake mate jump at the chance, its far better than commercials, less busy, peaceful and better fish
