9 out of fish will die
Hi
I am pretty new to fishing so my experience about fish isn't fantastic, but this week I heard that the actor Robson Green who for those of you who don't know him presents a tv programme called "Extreme Fishing" said that 9 out of 10 fish that are thrown back to sea die very quickly. I quite like Robson Green and he's quite a respectful guy. but surely this is a load of rubbish or is there an element of truth? Otherwise there'd be no point in throwing them back. |

First of ALL it is a load of crap He is a TOTAL ************************************************** *********************************************delet ed because we have children on here too (remember that guys please) He has put all the good work of Angling organisations back into the dark ages as an example opposite to his viewpoint I have just been sent a photo of a fish I caught in 2007 (Yes Robson 2 years ago) looking as healthy as ever and weighing in 6lb heavier so it hasn't died and Pudrick we do not THROW fish back we put them back after handling them correctly treating any trauma they had before we caught them with antiseptic --you know Pike bites, Heron stabs cormorant bites etc If you don't know how do this let me know and I will get a thread made up for you

Robson green is a over reacting pansy!
The only fish which do not respond well to being released is the mackerel, (as I am aware this is due to the temperature of your hands.) They are also a good bait so no need to waste. As to the spearing of pike and bow fishing of carp, that’s perfectly acceptable in my eyes. The carp is a non native species in North America, and I think there are even laws on not being allowed to return them. If a group of locals who by bow fishing are preserving their native fish stocks as well as having some fun and a free meal at the same time then there is nothing wrong with that. Again with the pike, though the northern pike is native to North America, in the Alaskan lake they were spearing, the pike had out competed everything else and were just cannibalising each other. Out in Alaska there is far more of a hunter gatherer culture, they ate the pike they speared and in the end of the day there nothing wrong with that. |

I can only repeat what MC has said Robson Green is follows his name Green,he has no idea about fishing uk style, his idea is spear and gun a total waste in my books.
Of course 9 out of 10 fish don't die unless you handle them like he does, has far as i know only the ASIAN CARP in north America are killed by law all other carp can be returned,it is common practice to eat what you catch in the states but the anglers are being educated now in to doing what we do here and that is catch and release, every one to there own i say but i will never kill a fish just to put on the table,i will buy one first and thats the reason i do not game fish.
