I find it facinating, Poleland(can't spell it...wahahhaah....now u dont have 2 laugh...) has good carp fishing done with fancy tackle n dometents and expencive beds n so on....yet it seems that 99%of the polish fishermen I hear about outside of poleland are fishkillers who dont even return fishes wich is to small to eat....
What is the Catch and Cook status in England? are most 100% c&R fishermen, or I wack the ocasional fish, or does it depend on species? That knife thing will be very useful to know, thank you for that! |

UK regulation of fish killing is simple Course fish are to be returned to the water alive ( Riperian owners are allowed to cull certain fish -Pike if they are a nuisance --which I think is stupid at times when they take out the small ones not the one matriarch which then allows a change in genetics ofthe stock) Trout depending on Riperian owner you tend to be allowed to take a brace of fihs at anyone time where they are stocked on a regular basis then you normally get allowed to take more Salmon if you catch one then fabulous think the regs allow only 2 fish Grayling According to the UK regs they are Course fish Sea fish have sizing regulations that come from the EU and change sometimes daily

No the laws on fishing are actually quite strict it's just enforcement thats lax you cannot kill course fish unless they are diseased and then you have to notify the Environment Agency so they can find out whats wrong and may close the water for a while or a few years Game fish are less stringently controlled and it's the fishery owner that limits the catches so you could be fishing a place where you have to kill all fish caught and are only allowed to kill 2 or a place where you can choose to release a fish if it's too small My licence is for Freshwater and NON migratory trout and for £25 a year limits me to one rod when trouting or two rods for freshwater fish and eels but the byelaw's are what is important too so there is a lot that has to be considered when needing to kill a fish legally

The Romanians are worse!
When I was in Romania the last time me aunt talkt about when she was in France, they handfed carp with bread and she wanted to take one home to eat... And when I told my father that all fishing for carp in the lokal club owned lake is C&R he wondered why anyone would go through the trouble of catching carp if he didn't eat it after and insinuated that I should break that rule. It feels kindof akward, I'm gonna start a small "campaign" for crusian this year to get to know the fish and next year I will start another campain to break the club record for crusian (1.92kilos, the best nearby lake has several 2+ fishes) but i will never bring a crusian home, only rainbow trouts, and (sorry for the sin towards corse fishing) the odd perch. But I think it all comes down to weather you are a shortfisherman or not. 3years ago when I started fishing I used a 1meter paternoster-rig with 6 size 16 hooksthat would scare even the most seasoned seaangler. After joining a sportfishingforum and seeing some anglingfilms I realized that such rigs shouldnt be used onless you are stranded on a desert island or something... But some people will allways belive that fish are for eating and they will never understand that fishing is a (perhaps cruel) sport. |
