The side of fishing i dont get ..

.. is the "technical side" as you may have guessed from my posts, things like:

- Different Rigs/Rigs for different Species/Water - ie Zig Rig and Helicopter Rigs.

- Different times of year and day and weather and how it affects the fishs feeding and where they are.

- How to find the fish, where they are, in the middle, margins, just under the water, bottom feeding.

- How baits are presented under water, colours and how they lay.

- If im not catching, say i go overnight or having a bad day, what things could i try to get at least bites.

- And lastly, what can i do to make the rig good, like tubing etc?

I know i asked a bunch of questions before but i really want to improve at fishing, i buy all the magazines etc but i cant get my head round these things for some reason

Thanks in advance

James

A lot of what you're talking about comes with experience and trial and error
Who knows in 20 -30 years you'll probably be writing the same things as I do for you
To start with keep it simple
When you go fishing watch what the weather is where the wind is how hot or cold it is and write it down togehter with what you catch
My son has a book for each place he fishes with all his data in
so now when he goes he knows he will catch

BUT you have to go fishing a lot and record everything and some days you find silly things out about how you fish
Mine 15 years ago was that he was catching and I wasn't
the difference was my maggots were 2 days old his were fresh

so get yourself a notebook or three (or open a folder on your computer to do it onjust don't forget to back it up regularly) and start making notes and taking pictures to go with the notes

When i go fishing on a lake i just go like clueless because i cant picture it under the water, if i cast somewhere how will i know theres fish there ( obviously if im catching) but if im not what can i do to get them in the swim

I think my problem, i dont know why, apart from the technical side of it which im useless at) is that i dunno what to do when i get somewhere, like how deep it is etc, its weird

I will do the book thing though, ill keep a pad in my seat box, then type it into my computer when im home.

I wish there was some kind of book that just explains everything about fishing, like totally from the start, how to do all the rigs, how to keep fish in the swim, basically all my questions up there that would be awesome

There are LOADS of books available on how to fish but all of them have one big drawback no two

Price

they are written in do as I do don't learn yourself

which is a load of tripe

the only way you learn to fish is by adapting tactics to each different water you go to

you can't do the same thing everywhere and get the same results

Ok

I have found that some times the simple rigs e.g. weight and hook work the best.
