try just lifting the rod up gentaly as the float dips under the water, you have to remember alot of fish have soft mouths so an agresive strike will pull out the fish.

u need to strike upwards, remember, fish are below the water so by striking upwards you have more chance of hooking the top part of the mouth, wheras striking sideways you run the risk of just pulling the hook/bait straight out of the fishes open mouth.

I agree. As they said, just strike it up-wards.
Also, try jigging or tiring it. Also, remember not to bring it in to fast or the fish WILL come off!
Hope this helps!

It maybe that the fish are just feeling the hook as your float goes under and dropping it before you strike, are you sinking your line to keep a tight line between your rod tip and your float?

You might also want to look at your hook size/length & bait compared to the fish your getting bites from.. you often get a lot of pesky roach bites when fishing with things like meat/pellet.

Darren.

Could you tell me ways of strikeing plzzzzz.

Lots of experienced anglers get this so don't worry
sometimes it needs practice
Sometimes it's because you get small fish trying to get your bait
Sometimes it's because you strike to hard or too soon

The simple rule is wait for the float to bury itself then GENTLY lift the rod tip and give the fish a small tug UPWARDS
as long as your line is sunk under the surface film then you will be in direct contact with the fish quickly

The best story I always tell is when I took my wife fishing in Newark on the town stretch (you can't fish there now ********* H&Safety) she sat very aprehensive and the float disappeared she struck upwards but a little too hard which ended up with a Gudgeon 26 foot in the air (13' rod fished almost to hand) the kids laughed so much the two boys who did fish regularly with me missed quite a few bites

Moral -- as long as the fish has the hook in it's mouth an upward strike will get it top lip hooked every time

Hi Neaco,

As the others have said this happens to us all.

When fish feed on free offerings it is common for them to swish the hooklink with their tails taking the float under in the process, any strike will miss the fish when this happens unless the hook catches resulting in a foul hooked fish.

Keep On Fishing.
