No - you don't need a liecence for sea fishing.

You ONLY need an environment agency licence for freshwater fishing depending on how far up the estuary you are depends on whether they class it as "freshwater"

You do not need a licence for saltwater fishing

BUT

When fishing off some piers and beaches you may need a PERMIT from the Angling Club that controls fishing in that area

That's what your "guy" may have been referring to

No - you won't unless you get caught without a pernit for fishing in certain areas. And no problem - i'm sure Gray enjoyed helping you out!
