I heard a man who had just come back from fishing the river hogsmill on monday telling all his mates how he had just caught some decent fish and was just off to buy his licence! Then he went on to tell his mates where you could get away with fishing without a licence. I felt like saying to him why did you not just buy your licence before you went fishing? Could of saved him alot of money.

You people are lucky! here in Sweden your fishing gear gets confiscated and you might (very rearely)get a small fine. Nothing more!

I didnät read the entire thread but I think that big fines are good. The money payed for a 0.5kilo carp and the time for it to grow into a 14kilo carp doesn't come cheap. I pay some money to fish in the local fishing clubs waters and they work hard to keep the waters in good condition. WHy should some criminal be alowed to spoil that. In my experience it's a good chance that the person who won't pay only £30 to fish in five different waters with rainbow troud and carp and other stuff is the same guy who puts our beloved 14kilo cop on the grill.

If someone gets caught fishing with out a licence they can get
£2-3000 fine
6 months in jail or longer non custodial sentance
ALL their tackle confiscated
obviously a criminal record

the problem here is that there are not the funding for the Environment Agency to correctly police the law so people get away with breaking the law

AND
a lot of immigrants just claim ignorance and steal our fish anyway just to eat cheaply

Im not shore I understand compleatly. What I mean is that it is very good if those immigrants get punished for their crimes. 6months in prison seems good for them.

they'll probably get let out in a week if they are in for 6months. Look at the terrorist who got let out in the week. If they are letting terrorists out i doubt they will do much about a fisherman.

i also think baliffs should check to see if you have a disgorger and should also get fined for not carrying one because they are very vital piece of fishing equipment!

i have 1,

i get it every year the day it comes out,

and i dont micd because they are very cheap,

5 quid and my club membership is 8 quid,

13 quid to fish for a whole year,

what a bargin it is,

but i spend about 300 qid plud on bait and tackle,

but i dont kind,

i love fishing

wow all of that confused me a bit.

so sorry if this is not related.

i asked the guy that does them where i live and he said "you don't need one for the sea, as long as i don't see you"
does this mean you need one for shore angling or not.
