A most peculiar problem?!

At christmas i went fishing with my dad to a local lake and when i tied my hook to nylon to the mainline the line kept snapping, i assumed it was a bit of a "dud" section of line and took about 10yards off the reel and started again, only to find that this was the same, another 10yards off and still the same problem, line was snapping when i pulled a knot together.
I then tried my backup reel and the same thing happened. Consequently i took all the line off both reels and used one of my dads.
4 weeks ago i spooled 3 of my fishing reels up, 2 had 5lb Maxima chameleon line and the other had 5lb Drennan Float Fish line, last week i used them for the first time, and the same happened yet again!!! FRUSTRATING OR WHAT!?
So 2days ago paid yet another trip to the tackle shop and got another maxima 5lb line but also some 6lb Drennan feeder braid. Hope this wont happen again!
Why did that happen?

I had a similar problem with some maxima 4lb i was using for fly leader i came to the conclussion it was the design of hook i had used to tie up my flys the eye was upturned and the knot wouldnt sit right.

The question is how old is the line??

The Purists say you should change it after a year
others when you need to
also it depends how long it's been in the back of the shop too

I had some 12lb line that I regularly fished with.
After losing a method feeder that was fully loaded I checked my line to see why it cracked off fairly easily. Upon inspection I could see the line was frayed and damaged right through the whole spool. Closer inspecrion of the line on the spare spool revealed the same damage along with the 500 meters of line on the loading spool also.

I sent it off to the manufacturers after contacting them about it. They replaced it with 2 new 1000 meter spools and a letter of appology for my inconvenience using their faulty product.

Maybe its worth getting in touch with the manufacturer, after all they need you to be using their products with confidence.

That's a good idea you are not using cheap line and they don't want bad publicity
