Leader .....

I am new at this. Just got my rod, went to the yard picked up the casting from reading on the web and going back outside...of course I have no flies yet. How does one attach a fly? How long should the leader be and what is a tippet? Should the leader float or should it be under water? Do you build your leaders from nylon sections of decreasing strength or do you buy them all ready to go??? See I was not joking I know nothing.

the leader can be different lenghts depending how deep the fish is the leader can be three feet/right up to twenty feet it all depends on how well you can cast start with about five feet.tippet is just another name for leader you can buy 100 meters for about £7.00.
