New to Fly Fishing

This season with my local club i am taking up fly fishing. Its a small lake and i believe they plan to stock 1200 rainbows in 10weeks. I believe most are around 1-3lbs but there are a few over 6lbs. What weight rod would you recommend i use??? Also. i start my season at the end of february and was wondering what kind of fly i should use????

Oh crumbs what a question list

The best person to ask would be someone on the back who when he casts out the line always lands straight (not me then )

and can land a good few fish (Me Me !!! )

Depending on the size of the lake and you esperience level I would go for a weight forward line about a 7-9 weight so the rod is 7-9 and fairly long because it's still water don't go for a 9 foot one as thats for streams

Also what I would do before I even considered fishing is get a leader on and a big bit of bright red wool then go to a nice flat field and practice casting for a few hours

As for flies that's all down to the water but I'd take some Nymphs and wet flies rather than dry flies at this time of the year you won't get many hatches that's around March/April when they start

HTH a bit
