predatory fish arent the only fish that feed in winter, silvers will feed all year round and so will carp, only fish i i wouldnt really target are tench

i would fish with red maggots on the hook then just throw some over the top ( not too many ) about 5 now & then
i always find fish hard to catch in winter so all i would do is take maggots warm socks, coat, trousers etc & it might be a long wait but it could be worth it....and a large flask of hot tea or coffee
good luck

Maggots are a good winter bait and pellet. Watch the feed as too much will kill your peg. Hooker pellet is the best I have used and gets a good stamp of fish.

correct !!!

fish only stop feeding when there is low supply of food the save there energy and use there reserves up, if your local pond has regular anglers visiting in these colder months theres a good chance you'll catch because they will use energy looking for food and when they find it they will be topped us so to speak this results in fish been caught, what i'd suggest is use little bait as possible double maggot as hook bait then throw in 6 to 8 maggots every 10mins or so that should bring them in your swim keep them competing and hopefully bag you a few silver fish

here's to prove you can catch fish in winter i had these 2 carp out on sunday 20th jan 08

Don't ignore cumming up in the water as the temp in the day rises as the fish will follow the warm water on some occasions try kinder potting hemp when fishing silvers .
