well yomis thinks you should fish over a bed of hemp and then fish single red on a size 18 hook, you may even get the odd tench

hemp and tares trotting down on the river may bring big bags, has done me before. in a pond my advice will to fish over bram groundbait with hemp inside it. maybe a small maggot feeder or waggler with double red!

red

red is the key they love it, if your allowed groundbait you can use vde supercup red i have had huge bags of silvers on that in my local cannal, you can only imagine what it can do on a venue with more fish in.
if not iv had huge success on commercials with 3mm swimstim betaine pellets but the key is to always use red maggot

Got to hand it to these guys

Red baits and brown sweet groundbait with hemp in it's the only way for roach

BTW I use a French pellet in a sauce the pellets are a scarlet red and I don't need maggots with them they get Perch , Carp and Tench too

In answer to your question i've found that fishing treble squatt on a size 10 hook over a bed of "pec" luncheon meat, still in the tin, works a treat!
