Ive been to a lake that i go to quite often recently and having trouble catching fish and on a good day only catching one or two. Can anyone recemend a good recipe for making groundbait that will attract bottom feeding fish like carp, bream and tench because hopefully when i next go there, which will be soon i can catch alot of fish.
Thanks in advance Bronwee or aka Tom. |

As long as you have a liquidiser then its very simple.
The problem is that at this time of year particularly as the temps and pressures are going up and down like yo-yos groundbait can be the kiss of death and I would suggest that you use the old principle of "You can put it in but you cant take it out" Tench have largely gone now with a few exeptions. Liquidising Dried catfood, dried dogfood, Layers pellet, Layers mash, fish pellets, hemp, bread and mixing any of the above and a lot more besides will all give you a good groundbait that works very well. Experimenting is all part of the fun. As regards depleted catches. I think that most lakes suffer from this during and after leaf fall. Personally I believe it alters the PH and water quality on a lot of waters obviously dependant on the depth and amount of leaf litter going in. You need to be aware of your bait getting buried in dead leaves as well at this time of year. Last edited by Risque Manoofus : 11-28-2007 at 04:55 PM. Reason: more to add. |

Thanks that "recipe" really sounds good and il have to try it and i suppose experimenting is all part of the fun and i have made a groung bait that consisted on
tin of tuna tin of sweetcorn tin of spam lobworms mixed up in it as well as a hookbait sample as i was using lobworms i added in all the juices which made it really nasty and sticky but then added in really fine bread crumbs which thickend it. But i didnt catch anything when i used it so i wouldnt count on this recipe but if anyone wants to try it feel free. This is mainly why i was asking around for recipes. |

Liddls dog mixer, (Big bag for about 2 quid)
Hemp, (dry, about 13 quid a 15 kilo sack from your local feedstores and petfood wholesalers ), yellow pages to find out were they are. Get a pint glass and measure about a pint of each. Liquidise them seperately and then mix them together to make a super active feeder groundbait. Be careful liquidising your hemp because it tends to like to clog in the bottom of your liquidiser if it gets warm. If you want to make it even more active then liquidise half a pint of Liddls sugar puffs and mix those into your mix as well. You try it in clear water and watch your feedr explode. Use Liddls because they are a third the price of Asdas or similar. |

Got to agree start out simple brown bread crumb dried then blitzed in a blender then seived add something like Brasem and it works when the ntench are on you can just add samples of hookbaits and sweetcron into it works for me As for Carp heres the best I've found for SOME lakes Hemp Guinea Pig plus mix Wild Birdfood Mollasses Water leave for 3 days before use you need a spod or boat to deliver it but ............................. it's all good
