Smile Going Back = Going forward ????

Being brought up through the 60s and 70s fishing wise and learning on the match scene on waters like Elton Res, Rudyard Lake, Foulridge etc, you (if your an old codger like me) will know that through a good few years "the swingtip" was a basic bread and butter method for many of us going back then.
Having recently had a sort out and coming across several (broken and otherwise) various lumps of rods, I dug out an old Normark feeder unused for years minus a top section.
Being to tight to take it to the tip and to cut a long story short I decided to have a blast from the past and with a bit of bodge and butchery I managed to convert it to a quite respectable swingtip rod.
Using it has been fun and a constant scource of banter with the comments of people going past and staying to natter on my club water but more than that its been very succesful. I am now begining to wonder why on earth I stopped using this method on still waters.
Anyone who fishes for F1 carp will testify that there are times they have all the wiles of their crucian side when it comes to crafty bites and to my joy I have found that my swingtip has turned out to be more than equal to the task.
Why am I surprised? It was invented with shy biting skimmers and silvers at range in mind.
This particular lake is a water that at this time of year you have to get out and hug the island. Way out of pole range and although you can put a waggler out there, unless you want to catapult groundbait and stand the risk of over feeding your out of efficient feeding range.
Using a small blockend with peat, chopped worm and chopped caster Ive found that what was quick raps on even the softest tip on my bomb rod are now read-able, hit-able bites.
Ive had great enjoyment going back to this old and trusted method in more ways than one and I cannot for the life of me see why (other than at the time being trendy) I ever went away from it.
Anyone want to buy a bomb rod?
