Yes i do alot a chubbing on rivers. I arnt framiliar with the trent only fished it a couple of times. But fish for chub weekly on either the swale, tee's, wear, derwent and ouse. Some are better than others. You want a good strong line, around 6lbs is what i use, its rare i go above this even if there are barbel around still seems to handle them. Chub arnt hook shy, size 4 to 10 hooks are about rite for the bigger fish and baits. Sometimes i use Braid when feeder fishing. Put a weaker hooklink of about 4lb/5lb just for the chubs safety. I usually use mashed up bread in the feeder, if you can ball some into your swim. Chub like features like undercuts, overhang, rafts (they love these), and where two currents meet.

Method as you say feeder fish it if thats your style, it does work, location and feeding are both important give them something to feed on to get them in.

Baits Chub will eat anything may personal top 10 chub baits in no order are :-

Lobworm
Bread (anyform although flakes prob best)
Stilton
Danish Blue(a great winter bait)
Meat
Sausage
maggot (good but problems with fish size)
minnow deadbait
mini boilie
Slugs(big black ones the best)

tight lines

Perch rule out lobs, mags and minnow Db, still quite a bait list id be looking at meat (good for barbel too) bread and cheese maybe slug.

Fishbased is ok but not particularly important, as i say all i use is white crum, but normally white bread blended and mashed, if you have time you can do it by hand, or with a grater. Groundbait colour and flavour is not a massive issue with chub like it is with bream as chub eat anything, aslong as it gets them down there and keeps them there. experiment. Hemps Again not important, its likely to attract alot of non target fish such as small roach.

Its worth the effort, although as i say location etc is more important on rivers, is the bend a good swim?

Incidentally balling in abit of bread or groundbait with mags in it and trotting maggot over it is good for smaller schooling chub and good roach bags on rivers.

P.S whatever you use bread or groundbait or both put afew hook bait samples in it.

well since breadcrumb is bread i wouldnt worry lol, putting hook samples in the mix just gives the fish a taste for the bait.
