pole elastic

I am new to fishing and have only been at it a month or so with an old rod and reel with mixed success.
However I have been given a 2nd hand daiwa pole which is in good nick. The problem is that it has no elastic etc.. and I have no knowledge !! so I have a few questions:
1) what size elastic,
2)what else is needed to attach the elastic?
3) how do you attach the line to the elastic?

I'm using size 14 or 16 hooks and catching reasonable sized roach, rudd, bream and tench along with smallish barbel.

any advice would be of great help !!!!

goo to local tackle shop and thye might elasticate it for a minimal price if not maybe free...id suggest a size 6/8 elastic because ur not catchingg really big fish and if u use a heavy one you may bump alot of them off. do u plumet the depth? is there any carp in the lake u fish? if so what size range are they? also i suggest if you use smaller hooks maybe 16/18 . or maybe abitt small like 20's hope this helps
