Lake fishing for tench

I have been trying to hook an tench on bread and sweetcorn but i always seem to miss my bites. I have been trying the lift method by attaching a No 1 either sid of the float and a AAA 2 inches from the hook. I know there is a lot of roach in the swim but never seem to hook when striking :grr:

I am using a straight waggler and the float does sgo up about an inch and down the same but when or howenver i strike i never hook !

any suggestions?

Regards

Bobby :S

Re: Lake fishing for tench

If your not hooking up it probably is the size of fish trying to take your bait. I fished a lake once where I was plauged with gudgeon and couldnt strike into many of them.

Try using a smaller hook, I recomend no bigger than a size 12 when float fishing.

Re: Lake fishing for tench

Hi i've recentley been tenching in a local estate lake and found a good method of catching, i have been using a size 14 HAIR RIG resulting in tench to 5 lbs
i have tied with a light length of line (6lbs or so). This has proved effective with double corn, bread paste and even luncheon meat on a ledger set up, as for the float/waggler approach maybe try moving the shot away from the hook, in all my float fishing i never use a shot closer than six inches to the hook at least, this may spook the fish and in some cases you may find the fish are actually biting at your shot not your hookbait. try moving the shot up 6 inches, if still no luck, a hair rig will ENSURE hooking of the fish, happy fishing micky Amberley.

I caught a tench as you can see it was ledgered lobworm about 15 yards out from the reeds and it was a brilliant fight on the light takle and rod.
But the best method for tench is a summers day in the evening with a waggler fished on the bottom with anything really as tench are not that fussy.
But in the summer sometimes there are a lot of weed at the bottom witch you should rake out. This will also make the tench feed so you in with a chance.
