Pole Fishing Floats for windy weather?

hey all, one thing I have been looking to recently is my micro-managment when it comes to my pole rigs.. i'm currently looking into what floats work well in windy weather on a lakes.. I want to find a float that sits well within the waves without making my bait dance on the bottom.

any tips in general would be great

Alright mate.

The slimmer the better! They cut through the water more efficiently and combined with a wire stem add much stability. I got to the point where all my floats were slim with wire stemmed (except for the carp puddles) as I believe they also provide less resistance to a fish 'having a go'.

Tight Lines!

Preston pb10 pole floats
Preston tyson 2 carp pole float

these are a couple of type of floats to use on a windy day, i sujest the type that dont have that stick thing on the top use the type that are like a little nipple in the water, easy to see when you have a bite, ill put a couple of web site for you to have a look at :

thanks for the info, I found an article a while back about the effect of wind on lakes - i think i have the link on my laptop and will have to sort it out.. goes into a lot of detail about how the attributes of a float make it good for windy conditions...

My favourite floats of all time are the Milo Cuts.

They're really fragile though and have a really long wire stem so they not the best if you're clumbsy like me. Tubertini Concordes are great and relatively robust too!

Wink

Just a small tip that might be of some use to you slim is very important.
But if you can find some with a long tip then try colouring the tip into three or four different colours you will soon get to see what is the wind and what is a bite it will improve your catch rate on windy days
