Try and find a clear patch or try a pop up bollie / critical balanced bait. The fish live in the weed so the idea they won't find the food is wrong As for float fishing, how big / which river ? I never bother float fishing the river severn as there seems no point, the feeder produces the goods Oh and make sure your rigs fish safe if your fishing weeds. It should be anyway but more so when your likely to get broken off. I use 10-12lb mainline in weeds, with a 20lb flurocarbon hooklink with an esp safety kit

I'd go for a medium size feeder, and use maggots as bait

well you either use a blockend feedser with maggot in or an open end feeder with maggots and groundbait

Hi, I live near and have fished the Witham for 30 years , and my suggestion would be to make up a rake and drag the spot you fancy( fish like the disturbance ) and you will be able to fish any way you want, First day of season i did just that and had over 40 lb of skimmers up to 1 1/2 lb in under 5 hours. If possible drag a couple of days before and prebait , it works well in the Witham.
Some very big carp around tthe Bardney stretch so hang on to your boots.
regards
coldte
