Maggots on the float. Make sure you shot the line so the hookbait sinks slowly through the water as rudd feed on surface/falling baits. Keep a small and constant spray of maggots going in and you should be alright

Sound advice.....I use a pole and use a free line method....short,no float just two/three feet max of line.....i feed up FIRST and wait to see if they are feeding well...you can tell by the swirls on the surface.....once there feeding i then feed and wait two or three seconds then put my hook bait in and hold on tight.....but as sammy says you need a constant flow of maggots and your aim is to catch them on the drop

Yeah its why they have an upturned lip, helps with surface feeding rather than barbel whoes mouths are best suited to bottom baits

I think a dog buscuit might be a bit big for rudd. The records like 4lb. I'd stick to maggots and maybe corn if the small ones are abliterating you. Well done on the carp mate

Maggots/Casters and small pieces of luncheon meat are top baits for Rudd....very light hook as well...small size 20 max....everything needs to be light for Rudd fishing
