Flavourings Do We Need Them

I saw this topic on another site but thought why not lets see what you guys think on this subject that being do we need all these flavourings in our baits,i mean look at what we have now from spices to chocolates to acids and oils even and all supposed to catch more fish or should that be more Anglers.

I only use natural baits like Maggots,Casters and my favorite Worms and i seldom add anything to them although i have used Liquid worm/Predator plus on occasions to kick start my swim but the way i see it this...if a fish likes a bait to be presented to it in a natural way then why would it like the bait being like a takeaway menu surely it would like it to be natural in terms of looks and sent although i do think some flavours aid your catch rate there are a lot i think that are just there to catch you the Angler, fish will feed and take almost anything they see that has been proven but one thing that has not been proven is do they like all these additives/flavours that some pump in to there baits.

So the question is this is it the bait that catches the fish or the additives..tight lines

Personally i think corn, hemp and halibut are the best attracters and its all too easy to add too much flavouring and make your baits LESS appealing. That said scopex has proved its worth on many occasions. I seldom use bollies as i have little faith in them over other baits. Oh and curry powder can help to boost meat when barbel fishing

Brought some CSL today (corn steep liqueer). I only brought it as it was so cheap, 3 one litre bottles for a 5er. The stuff stinks, i plan on glugging a few bollies and using it instead of water in groundbait. I'm going to see if it makes any difference and i'll post the results on this thread. I think as its "natural" it may do but i still doubt flavours such as "chocolate" and those new "chavs breakfast" bollies

after glugging my bollies for just 2 - 3 hours (usually glug for weeks !) in my csl liquid the strength of the flavour taken on by the bollies was unbelivible. even after making several casts with the same bollie (nuitrabaits 3d) the smell of the bollies was still really strong ! i can't wait to try out the csl with my groundbait and prebait mixes for tench and carp later this week !

Good idea SB and i hope it works well for you but with so many different additives and flavours around these days it just makes you wonder is it just us that it catches rather than the fish....theres no doubt that flavourings do help to some extent but i just don't believe it is the end all of fishing or should that be must do... anyway....i seldom if ever use these additives but i catch fish when others don't that use these things,it could be that they over do the flavours but one thing is for sure natural baits was catching fish long before these additives where ever dreamed of although i think Izzak Walton used some in his fishing and that was back in the 1600

i never use these additives, partly because i never need them and i think that not catching 1 day is what makes fishing worthwhile, whether they work or not is difficult to determine, sometimes catching is all down to luck, well thats my opinion anyway
