River fishing on the nene

Im going to be river fishing Wednesday Thursday & Friday at the rapids orton mere, i have seen eels and pike had decent perch and Roch. Im just looking for tips really . The water is about 3-4ft deep , deeper in places as its a river, theres a lock and a mix of fast flow and slow moving water. i tried worm and virtually nothing put a few maggots on and it seems to come alive. I even had a eel take a maggot but lost it, O ! the joys of fishing.
